008008 Welcome to the JPEG Studio's Blog.

Hello, I'm Jill Steward, owner and operator of the JPEG Studio. I don't consider myself very fashion forward but I do have to decide "What hat to wear today?"  Digital retoucher, salesperson, secretary, photographer, marketer...tax consultant (eek!). I love my job and I hope you enjoy this blog. Feel free to leave comments and share with your friends too.

Thanks for visiting!  ~Jill

Senior Sessions at the JPEG Studio:

The Shoot: approx. 2 hours, then plan for an extra hour to pick out your top images.

ABF_5375-ed2ABF_5375-ed2

Unlimited outfits: but to give you an idea, for most Seniors that means 5-7 outfits. Please bring more than that to give us options, plus any special items you may want to feature in your images.

ABF_7463-efABF_7463-ef

Unlimited inside/outside backgrounds which usually translates to about 10-12 different settings.  I like start in the later-afternoon in the studio then we use about half out time outside to get those setting sun, golden light photos.

My Senior Sitting fee is $100 but if you choose to make a custom collection (which is a wall portrait, album, gift prints and wallets) that fee is waived!   I ask all seniors to fill out a discover form, which helps us plan our session time. And parents need to fill out the Senior Welcome Kit, which features all my photo products available along with a follow-up cost estimate based on what you want!

To get on the Senior calendar, a $100 down payment is required. That covers the sitting fee but if you go with the custom collection, it is just simply applied to your final order total.  The day of the shoot, a $100 payment is also due. At ordering time, ½ of the total is due, and finally the full bill is due when you pick-up your order.

Thanks for thinking of me for your Senior photos – It’s Senior Season! Hooray!

I've said this a lot, "Scheduling is the hardest part!"  After working around school, ball practices, work schedules and vacations - you've finally booked a date that will work for everyone... then Missouri weather strikes!  But, not to worry.  I love having the option to go inside if that pop-up storm decides to book at the same time as your photo session.  And over the years, I've gathered quite a collection of backdrops!  I'm always adding and re-arranging, so take a look (FYI: these videos DO play music):

Check out some of my favorite outside locales too!

Hearing how this season (of life) is so consumed with ball practices, camps, end of school stuff... I hear the lyrics to this song:
Stop this train
I wanna get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
But, honestly, won't someone stop this train?

Don't know how else to say it,
Don't want to see my parents go
One generation's length away
From fighting life out on my own

Mom and Sylvia

Stop this train
I wanna get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
but, honestly, won't someone stop this train?

Sylvia nose wrinkle

So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game to find a way to say that life has just begun
Had a talk with my old man
Said, "Help me understand."
He said, "Turn 68,
you'll renegotiate
Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly, we'll never stop this train."

Once in a while when it's good
It'll feel like it should
And they're all still around
And you're still safe and sound
And you don't miss a thing
'Til you cry when you're driving away in the dark.

Hello Mama!

Now that baby is finally here you want photos!  002002 Let me walk you through some options, tips and reasons why to choose the JPEG Studio!

  1. Have a plan on how you want to display your images.  The possibilities are endless but some of the most popular ways to display your new baby are:
    1. Above the Crib Wall Portraits Above the Crib DisplayAbove the Crib DisplaySweet little Willa!
    2. “Picture Wall” somewhere in your home Collage WallCollage WallCollage Wall
    3. A display for your office and then Photos for your Wall!Photos for your Wall!
    4. Albums are great because in the 1st year they change so much and you want to savor each stage, it’s perfect to take images we have taken all year long and compose a 1st year Album! View a Sample Album - Click here.  Which brings me to point #2…
  2. STAGES – Don't book your appointments based on age...look for major milestones.
    1. For the newborn stage it really is important to try to get into the studio within the first 3 weeks, then we can get that perfect “sleep anywhere, anyway” photo. Click here to view some great newborn ideas.   Sweet Sleepy BabySweet Sleepy Baby After that, I advise my mamas to book appointments based on the following milestones:
    2. Expressions (which can range from 3-5 months) It’s so heart stopping when your baby smiles at you and begins to let their personality show. ABF_1391bwslide101Expressions - Garrett Lockridge
    3. Sitting up (7-9 months) This is the perfect time to do that family photo for a couple reasons.  Lots of new mamas make the mistake of booking family photos right after the baby arrives, waiting a bit gives mom time to look her best too! and Baby makes 3!and Baby makes 3!  Plus at this stage, your baby really gives you lots of personality instead of just sweetly sleeping the session away! Willa Ryan
    4. Walking (10 months to 1 year) Lots of parents love to add in a Birthday Scene and Cake Smash photo shoot to this session! Cake Smash 1st Bday
  3. Choose the session type that fits you best…
    1. Newborn Sessions are 2 hours with a sitting fee of $100. Newborns require more time, more diaper changes, more feedings and more patience, hence the longer session time, but you get some precious images you will cherish for years to come.
    2. Classic Sessions run about 1 hour with a $50 sitting fee for weekday sessions. Unlimited outfits, backdrops, locations. Both Newborn and Classic sessions are completely customize-able and include a 12 image video slideshow with your sitting.  We do a pre-session consultation on the phone to plan your session time!

    3. Friday Photo Club Sessions are my most economical session for kids and run about 1hour total (half the time shooting, half the time ordering).  No sitting fee is charged if you can come on a Friday from 8am-4pm, and it’s only $20 if you need to come on a non-Friday or evening.  Then my packages start at $25 for 2 5x7s and 8 wallets.  The biggest difference on this session is that you get 1 outfit, 1 pre-selected scene and ordering is done the day of the shoot.  The best thing is that you earn points for free stuff when you are in the club! Learn more about the club here.

Finally, just remember to stop, let the laundry go and enjoy, it really does go so fast.

~ Jill
